Born in Leicester in the UK she went to Wyggeston Girl's Grammar School. An early interest in botany, zoology and the decorative arts has come to be reflected in her work reinforced by her studies in botany at Manchester University, graduating with honours in 1980. She took a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from Leicester University teaching for two years before moving to Florence, Italy and marrying artist Alexis Rago whom she had met at Manchester. Her formal studies in art began in Florence where she was tutored in the techniques and methods which were gradually adapted to her approach. She soon began exhibiting in Italy in solo and group shows over about a decade before returning to the UK and moving to Lincolnshire. She now lives and works in a former Methodist chapel exhibiting in public galleries and museums as well as private galleries both in the UK and beyond. Her works are described as 'beautiful and compelling' (City Gallery, Leicester) and she has many collectors. Janet recently co-founded Protoangel Visions which organises special events in the ancient conserved church of St Peter, Normanby by Spital, Lincolnshire. Protoangel visions curates visual art with music featuring contemporary artists and distinguished musicians. This initiative is currently receiving backing from the Arts Council of England and The Churches Conservation Trust. In addition Protoangel has a small press publishing limited edition reproductions and books. |
